The rural heart of Cornwall is blessed with beautiful gardens containing exotic flowers and plants, offering spectacular views over scenic Cornish landscapes. With the climate to sustain a jungle garden, this new itinerary includes visits to some of the most alluring gardens in the area, as well as a journey on the Bodmin Railway and a visit to St Austell Brewery.
The Lanhydrock Hotel & Golf Club
This family owned, luxury hotel offers a warm welcome, situated on the outskirts of the old county town of Bodmin in the rural heart of Cornwall. The 46 contemporary bedrooms are all equipped with TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The restaurant provides beautiful views of the countryside overlooking the golf course and features a varied modern English menu using local produce when possible, there is a bar and outside terrace adjacent to the restaurant
Day 1 After our morning departure we head south using the motorway network with suitable stops on route to the Lanhydrock hotel. We are welcomed with a tea/coffee then time to settle in before dinner.
Day 2 This morning we make our way to one of the most unique and fascinating attractions in Cornwall, the Lost Gardens of Heligan. A genuine secret garden, lost for decades until a discovery in the corner of the walled garden was to unlock the secret of their demise. We will enjoy a guided tour before we are left to explore this 200 acre site. After lunch here we visit the St Austell Brewery visitor centre to find out the secrets behind its award winning ales and 160 year old brewing process with tutored beer sampling and a pint of St Austell Beer.
Day 3 Today we visit Lanhydrock House an impressive late Victorian home and gardens. We can see the fascinating contrast between the upstairs and downstairs worlds by exploring the kitchens and servants quarters as well as the grand family spaces. After our time here we travel the short distance to Bodmin & Wenford Railway for a return journey to Boscarne junction.
Day 4 Our excursion today takes us to the only city in Cornwall, Truro. We spend the morning at leisure exploring this vibrant centre of shopping, culture and architecture in the heart of Cornwall. After lunch we will make our way to Trelissick, fabulously positioned on its own peninsula, with panoramic views over the Fal Estuary. The house contains the china collection of Copeland-spode along with a solarium and Florentine inspired drawing room. The garden contains plant collections including magnolias, camellias, rhododendrons and hydrangeas.
Day 5 After breakfast we make our way home with suitable stops along the way arriving back in Chelmsford early evening.

My husband and I returned from our trip to Thursford, with a shopping break and one night in Norwich. We thoroughly enjoyed the Spectacular - it was Wonderful. Gary, our driver, was excellent and the journey there and back, plus Sherringham, great.
