The Isle of Wight is one of Britain's most popular holiday destinations. Over half the island is recognised as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and the miles of sandy beaches, lovely scenery and villages make it very attractive. There is plenty to do with very little travelling so it is a very relaxing holiday. We are delighted to be using the Bourne Hall Hotel again, a really lovely country house hotel offering good old fashioned friendly service in beautiful surroundings
Bourne Hall Country House Hotel
This small hotel occupies an impressive position overlooking the sea and coast just outside Shanklin Village. Purchased by the owners, the property has been progressively restored to return the hotel to its former glory, with outstanding public areas including a small bar and large lounge, this property is a real 'home from home'. Each of the 34 bedrooms is traditionally furnished and include tea/coffee making facilities, TV and hairdryer. The hotel restaurant enjoys views of the gardens and there is an indoor and outdoor swimming pool in the grounds.
Day 1 Leaving from your local pick up point, we make our way to Portsmouth with a stop on route for coffee. We take the ferry across to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight and make our way to the Bourne Hall Hotel with time for you to settle in before the evening meal.
Day 2 Today we visit Osborne House, Queen Victoria's country getaway, in the mid-1800s they rebuilt Osborne House to create a family palace of extreme opulence with extravagant interiors as demonstrated in the Durbar room. As you wander through this palace you get a real glimpse into what royal family life was like 200 years ago. Return to the hotel along the coast via Yarmouth and Freshwater.
Day 3 Morning free to explore Shanklin. The hotel is close to Shanklin Chine, a gorge with rare plants and delightful waterfalls that leads down to the esplanade. Alternatively you could use the cliff lift to take you down. Old Shanklin is worth a visit with its lovely old thatched buildings housing quaint little shops and tea rooms. In the afternoon we visit Ryde which in addition to an expanse of sandy beaches that stretch right along the town has a great selection of boutique shops, museums and galleries for you to visit along with lots of other things to see and do along its esplanade.
Day 4 After breakfast we take a leisurely but scenic drive to the Island capital, Newport, giving you a chance to look around the varied shops and purchase lunch. This afternoon we pay a visit to Godshill a lovely village with thatched cottages and small craft shops.
Day 5 We leave the hotel after breakfast and head back to Fishbourne for the mid-morning ferry. We make a stop in Winchester on the return journey and arrive back in Chelmsford early evening.
